Free Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Training Offered in Key West

Monroe County, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe), in partnership with the Miami Victim Assistance Program team and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), will offer a free human trafficking awareness and prevention training on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the following location:
Monroe County Public Library – Key West
700 Fleming St., Key West, FL 33040
This free training is open to all community members, including residents, business owners, service providers, hospitality staff, educators, and anyone interested in helping prevent human trafficking in Monroe County.
Held in recognition of National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and Wear Blue Day, the training will help participants:
- Understand what human trafficking is
- Recognize common signs and indicators
- Learn how to respond when you’re concerned about someone’s safety
- Identify available support and resources for victims
The session will be led by the Miami Victim Assistance Program team followed by Janelle Filsaime, MPA, Regional Human Trafficking Prevention Coordinator of DCF.

“We encourage everyone in the community to attend this important training. Increased awareness is one of the strongest tools we can use to prevent human trafficking and support survivors. Wearing blue on this day is a simple way to show solidarity and raise visibility for this critical issue,” said Dr. Carla Fry, PhD, MSN, RN, administrator and health officer, DOH-Monroe.
Following the training, participants are invited to join an optional group photo in recognition of Wear Blue Day.
This training supports the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and is made possible through collaboration among DOH-Monroe, the Miami Victim Assistance Program team, DCF, and the Key West Library.
