Health Department Offers Travel Vaccines

The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) is now offering vaccines for individuals with plans to travel abroad.

The type of travel vaccines varies depending on which region of the world the traveler will visit.  For this reason, it is important to plan ahead and make an appointment as soon as possible once travel plans are made.

To make an appointment for travel-related vaccines, call 305-293-7500 at least one month before departure.  It is important to inform us at least one month or more to give the department enough time to order the vaccine ahead of time and inoculate the person.  It is also important to take action ahead of time to give your body enough time to build up immunity.  This is particularly the case for Yellow Fever and Typhoid vaccines.  Travel vaccines are not stocked, but ordered ahead of time.

You will be asked to provide information on the country or countries you plan to visit and the planned departure date. The department accepts many forms of health insurance, though not all travel-related vaccines are covered.  For individuals who must pay out-of-pocket, please note that the department provides vaccines at their cost with no markup.
