Health Department to Host “Health To You”
Community Event at Bernstein Park Wednesday, June 21

 

(Monroe County, Fla.) — The Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) is hosting its second free “Health To You” community event at Bernstein Park from 3-7PM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. 

All attendees will receive a $10 food gift card for their participation while supplies last.

“We launched the ongoing ‘Health To You’ initiative make it easier for people to gain access to the many free products and services we offer to help people stay healthy, “said Dr. Carla Fry, PhD, MSN, RN, Administrator and Health Officer, DOH-Monroe.  “Hosting this event again at Bernstein Park is part of our ongoing focus on the needs of the Stock Island Community.  This time we are having the event from 3-7PM to hopefully make it easier for people to attend after work.”

DOH-Monroe physicians, nurses and staff members will be on hand to provide the following services, all free of charge.  No health insurance or appointments required. 

  • Health screenings
  • Vaccines
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Free bike helmets
  • Free condoms
  • Narcan
  • Nicotine Patches

In addition to health department services, other organizations will be on hand to share what they have to offer the community.

Carolyn Thomson, ACA Health Insurance Navigator with Epilepsy Alliance Florida will also be at the event to provide free assistance with health insurance for people who need help with the following:

  • ACA SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD for qualifying life events (marriage, divorce, having a baby, lost coverage, changed jobs, change in immigration status and/or low or reduced income.)
  • MEDICAID applications and renewals due to the continuous coverage ending, including SNAP and Medicare Special Savings Plans.

DOH-Monroe is also looking to expand the number of community partners at the event to provide even more free health-related resources at this “Health To You” event.  Any organization who is interested to participate at this event can reach out directly to the health department at dohmonroe@flhealth.gov.
